With the Christmas season now being in full swing, the Christmas movies have been going full blast in my house almost constantly. The other day I saw a post or story (I can’t remember which) on Instagram about favorite Scrooges. The list had the usual versions, the Muppets, the newer version with Jim Carey, an old version that I had never seen before, etc. Many of those on the list I did agree with and watch them quite frequently. However, one of my favorite and most watched versions of A Christmas Carol was left out and in the cold, you could say.

The one that is probably my favorite version of A Christmas Carol in film is from 1984 with George C. Scott playing Ebenezer Scrooge. I believe that all versions bring their own flair to the story and that is one reason why there are so many versions of the timeless story. Ebenezer Scrooge the old miser who had no desires in life other than money and the making of more of it. He had no concerns for anyone other than himself and his business. But through the story, when he is visited by the spirits one after another, he realizes that there is more to life. Scrooge comes to realize that he must change and that it’s not yet too late to do so. The story then has a happy ending not just for him but for those around him who had hoped for him to change.
